The second world war and the Korean war were just a bad memory for the United States: nylon weaving mills had finally gone back to manufacturing civilian products and women literally mobbed the stores selling fine hosiery. Only, nylon stockings were different from today’s because the original yarn spinning process could fabricate textiles stretching lengthwise only.
Enter Agilon, a new spinning process using a hot blade to micro-curl the fiber into a spiral yarn with the ability of stretching crosswise too – meaning a much better fit for stockings. To educate customers, the company that invented Agilon created long, “modern” commercials which are now finding a second life as vintage fetish material.
