Vibrating excitement in Tokyo for a very special bar

That Japanese society is slightly odd to a Western eye is a given, but some cases still manage to amaze me – like the success of Love Joule, a bar which opened a few months ago in Tokyo.
Defined as a place «of love and sex, dedicated to women», it is just a café decorated with hundreds of vibrators of all kinds, where entrance is forbidden to men unaccompanied by a lady. If you are expecting phantasmagoric lesbian orgies, however, you are pretty much off the mark.

«It is a pleasant place where customers can openly discuss masturbation», says owner Megumi Nakagawa. «Most people see it as a sort of mistery, so it is not among the common conversation topics in normal bars».
In fact, female sexuality in 2012 Japan is still considered taboo even in a metropolis like the capital – so any occasion to explore this theme has a strong appeal for many repressed women. In a city famous for its special interests erotic clubscatering to males and its fetish bars, I guess this is a big improvement.
